Job Title: Executive Director
Location: St. Louis, Missouri (Hybrid: three days in office, two days remote)
Reports To: President and Board of Directors through the Board Chair
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $68,000-$75,00 annually, commensurate with experience
About Infant Loss Resources
Infant Loss Resources (ILR) provides compassionate, family-focused care and practical resources across Missouri and adjoining counties in Illinois and Kansas. The organization’s mission is to bring comfort, education, and hope to families experiencing the loss of an infant while promoting safe sleep education and prevention to reduce infant mortality.
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of Infant Loss Resources, responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, programs, and sustainability. Reporting to the President and Board of Directors through the Board Chair, the Executive Director oversees statewide operations, leads staff, manages finances and funding, and represents the organization in the community.
The role requires a leader who combines empathy with operational excellence, guiding a small but dedicated team while strengthening relationships with funders, hospitals, public agencies, and community partners.
Staff Supervision: Direct supervision of 5 staff across Missouri and adjoining counties in Illinois and Kansas.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic and Organizational Leadership

Partner with the Board of Directors to develop and execute the organization’s strategic plan and priorities.

Implement board policies and provide regular reports on progress, challenges, and organizational needs.

Foster a culture of compassion, accountability, and collaboration among staff and volunteers.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as funder requirements.

Maintain strong relationships with the President and Board Chair, supporting effective governance and communication.

Identify opportunities for innovation in program design and operations to serve families and communities better.

Lead all fund development efforts, including annual fundraising campaigns, grant writing, and cultivation of new sponsors and funders.
Financial Management and Administration

Lead all aspects of budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal oversight to ensure organizational stability and transparency.

Prepare the annual budget in collaboration with staff and the Board Finance Committee.

Oversee grant administration and ensure compliance with funding contracts and reporting requirements.

Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring effective coordination across all regions.

Supervise preparation of financial and operational reports for the board and funders.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies to maximize resources.
Program Oversight and Delivery

Oversee the Family Support, Bereavement, Safe Sleep, and Education programs to ensure consistency and quality of services.

Supervise Family Support Coordinators and Outreach staff.

Maintain and evaluate program data systems to measure reach, quality, and outcomes.

Support staff training and professional development to ensure services remain current and evidence-based.

Strengthen partnerships with hospitals, public health departments, and community organizations to expand outreach and accessibility.

Ensure participation in Child Fatality Review and related collaborative meetings.
-
Ensure program materials and outreach strategies reflect cultural and linguistic inclusivity.

Strengthen relationships with medical examiners/coroners/funeral directors in Missouri and adjoining counties in Illinois and Kansas.
Fundraising, Grant Writing, and Development

Lead all fund development efforts, including annual fundraising campaigns, grant writing, and cultivation of new sponsors and funders.

Identify and pursue new grant opportunities through foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

Manage relationships with existing donors and ensure timely grant submissions and reporting.

Oversee planning and execution of fundraising events and community engagement activities.

Ensure donor recognition and stewardship activities are consistent and meaningful.

Develop a clear, data-driven development plan to support revenue diversification and long-term sustainability.
Marketing, Public Relations, and Community Engagement

Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for Infant Loss Resources.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with media, community leaders, and partner organizations.

Oversee the creation of communication materials, reports, and campaigns that highlight ILR’s programs and impact.

Promote awareness of infant loss prevention and safe sleep education through presentations, events, and public forums.

Strengthen ILR’s digital presence through websites, social media, and storytelling campaigns that engage donors and families.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in nonprofit management, public health, social work, or related field preferred.

3–5 years of progressive, responsible nonprofit leadership experience.

Proven success in grant writing, fundraising, and cultivating new funding relationships.

Experience managing budgets, staff, and multi-region programs.

Knowledge of family-centered or bereavement support programming preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to lead with compassion while achieving measurable results.

Additional Details

Hybrid schedule: three days per week in the St. Louis office and two days remote.

Occasional evening and weekend hours for outreach, events, and community meetings.

Travel within Missouri and adjoining counties of Illinois and Kansas as needed to implement the mission.

First 12 Months Performance Expectations

Strategic Assessment and Planning: Conduct a comprehensive review of current programs, operations, and funding sources within the first 90 days, and present an actionable, Board-approved plan for program alignment and growth within the first six months, including clearly defined priorities, timelines, and success measures.

Financial and Fundraising Goals: Secure at least two new funding sources or major sponsors and ensure timely submission of all grant applications and reports.

Program and Staff Leadership: Evaluate staff structure and training needs, implement best practices for program delivery, and foster strong team engagement.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Strengthen relationships with hospitals, public health agencies, donors, medical examiners, coroners, funeral directors, and community partners to expand the organization’s reach and impact in Missouri and adjoining counties in Illinois and Kansas.

Board Collaboration: Build a strong working relationship with the Board of Directors, providing clear updates on strategic initiatives, program outcomes, and financial health.
